Stoneware cup with layered glazes – inspired by Sedona, Arizona
After surviving kidney failure and beginning recovery from my transplant surgery, a friend of my wife’s asked me to create a cup inspired by Sedona, Arizona — their favorite place to visit. I was still healing, both physically and emotionally, but something about Sedona’s Cathedral Rock called to me. It stood as a symbol of strength, balance, and the beauty that forms through pressure and time.
As I sculpted through two revisions over two and a half weeks, I wasn’t just shaping clay — I was rebuilding myself. Dawn at Cathedral Rock became a reflection of my own sunrise, a reminder that even after the darkest nights, we can rise again — stronger, grounded, and full of light.
