About the Artists
Hi, I’m Dave Hess, a New Orleans ceramic artist who creates functional art inspired by the city’s culture, landmarks, and spirit. My work blends storytelling with everyday use, turning familiar symbols into handcrafted pieces made to be enjoyed, displayed, and lived with.
My signature Sugardome™ pays tribute to the iconic Superdome, transforming a piece of New Orleans pride into a functional art vessel. Each one is sculpted, carved, and glazed by hand, making no two alike.
My newest creation, the Streetcar Butter Dish, continues that mission — celebrating the St. Charles and Canal streetcars through detailed, fully functional ceramic designs. Each piece captures the charm of the city’s oldest moving landmark, turning a daily kitchen item into a little slice of New Orleans.
In 2025, I was honored to be selected as a finalist for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s “Art of the Cup” exhibition, a milestone that reflects the craftsmanship and passion behind my work.
Every piece from Dhess Pottery is created with intention, local pride, and the goal of bringing a bit of New Orleans into your home one functional artwork at a time.
